Celebrate the Feast Day of St. David

St. David’s Day has been celebrated since the 12th century when Saint David became the patron saint of Wales. In his lifetime, he founded 12 monasteries and the important Christian shrine of Glyn Rhosyn. His feast day is not a national holiday but Saint David is still commemorated in parades around Wales.

There are also many cultural and sports events held internationally like the St David’s Day Festival in Los Angeles or a Welsh-themed week in Disneyland Paris. A big part of the celebrations is the “eisteddfodau”, which is essentially a competition of poetry and music that children participate in school. Welsh people also particularly enjoy traditional food on that day like cawl, bara brith tea loaf, Welsh Cakes, and Welsh rarebit.
