Celebrate Women’s Contributions to History and Culture
Women’s History Month has its origins in California in 1978 when the school district of Sonoma held presentations in schools for a week, held a “Real Women” essay contest, and concluded the celebration with a parade in Santa Rosa. In March, the spotlight is on the often-overlooked women and their contributions to history, science, culture, and society.
Around the globe, women in all kinds of industries and female artists are celebrated. Use this time to learn more about milestones like the suffragette movement and world-changing personalities like Rosa Parks or Sojourner Truth. Attend or volunteer at events to educate yourself about women that shaped history.
