National Freedom Day
National Freedom Day is a federal holiday in the United States and marks the birth of the 13th Amendment of the US Constitution. On 1st February in 1865, Abraham Lincoln signed a joint House and Senate resolution that later became the Amendment. This is an important date in black history as it is the beginning of freedom from slavery for African Americans.
Festivals are held in many towns and cities across America to celebrate the freedom of black people on the national holiday. The most famous festivity is the wreath-laying ceremony at the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia.
